As the country gets ready for the straight man’s Oscars, the celebrities are hitting the celebrations and gifting suites in Glendale, Arizona. The Victoria’s Secret Super Bowl Celebration at Taste Ultra Lounge taking center stage as the premiere event, while John Travolta and Marshall Faulk co-hosted the Super Bowl XLII ‘Saturday Night Spectacular.’ Paula Abdul spent the weekend wandering from gift suite to gift suite.

It was a young crowd at the Old Navy “New Year, New Old Navy” event held in New York City yesterday at the Eyebeam Atelier. I stand by my assertion that Chace Crawford needs to not ever have facial hair–until he actually has a wrinkle or two on his face–because he’s just too fresh-faced. It looks like he’s been playing with costume facial hair.

Here is a row of some of my favorite gals on television at the moment, right below in a line of thumbnails–all of them looking flawless, in my view. Kirsten Bell and Hayden Panettiere are rocking the red lipstick and pefect skin, with Blake Lively and the deliciously slicing Becki Newton from “Hideous Betty.” Heatherette was there and Natasha Bedingfield looks like she was rocking some Amy Winehouse eyeliner in her gold trench-coat. I don’t know how I feel about the trench-coat just yet, but I’m pretty sure my grandmother’s “fancy” purse and shoes are made out of the exact same stuff.

OK, so maybe she was simply asking a waiter passing by if she could get another flute of champagne, but this picture serves my purposes. Thurman was just one of many celebrity attendees of Valentino’s last fashion show, after the purchase of his label by a British company. The designer decided to end his fashion dynasty with a splashy fashion show and star-studded celebrations.

Uma’s “Kill Bill” co-star, Lucy Liu, was also in attendance and it’s a testament to the woman’s utter fierceness that I’m able to look at her outfit and love it, although she looks like she is wearing a cape made out of dinosaur intestines. Eva Herzigova and Claudia Schiffer also showed up and if you look closely, there appears to be a mysterious hand under Claudia’s arm in one of the photos, that looks like it’s about to give her an impromptu breast exam.

And, once again, young Blake Lively of “Gossip Girl,” was in attendance. This chick looks like she’s having the time of her life during fashion week. I’d be jealous if she didn’t look so sweet.

The Chanel fashion show in Paris had a retro, late-80s feel to it and writing that sentence made me feel old to re-realize that the late 80s are now retro. Nobody showed up in a Delorean or anything, but flat shoes were all the rage on the models on the catwalk.

But since my knowledge of fashion is more cursory than that of celebrities, let’s talk about the famous faces in the crowd. Claudia Schiffer was there, making nice with her fellow countryman, Karl Lagerfeld, and I’m reminded of one of my favorite celebrity Halloween costumes of all time from this past year. On his other side is Sofia Coppola, looking absolutely little next to the giantess that’s Claudia Schiffer. She’s looking mighty Brigitte Bardot in these pix–love the hair.

One of my favorite young fashion mavens, Blake Lively, from “Gossip Girl” was there, looking adorable as usual–although, I do wish I would have seen her in something a bit more young.

Everybody pulled out their favorite black dress and suit for the Chanel Fine Jewelry “Night of Diamonds” dinner at the Plaza Hotel in NYC. As much as I give her shit for being too thin, I’m appreciative that in the sea of sedate tiny black dresses, Ellen Pompeo managed to hit the red carpet with an outfit, hair and make-up that stood out from the crowd.

I love the retro-glam look from the neck up, and there is so much going on in this outfit to care about–a giant satin white boy slung across her shoulders, positioned right at the center of her chest, little tiny black leather gloves, with their own bows too, I believe, and a skirt that dissolves into tassles by the time it reaches her feet. In case you cannot tell if I’m being sarcastic or not, you are not alone, because I can’t either.

But without any confusion, I can confidently say that I think Blake Lively of “Gossip Girl” looked totally fantastic with her hair loosely pulled-back, her star earrings and sheer-in-parts top. However, it’s Selma Blair who has my vote for best dress and hair. Kristy Turlington looks predictably beautiful, but quite frankly, if you are a supermodel, it’s your job.

And poor Julia Stiles–I feel like she always looks like she ran out of make-up before walking out the door.
