2008 Oscars: Live-Blogging at the Pre-Show

Posted on Feb 24, 2008 07:06:32 PM

*If you would like to see the list of 2008 Oscar nominations, CLICK HERE* I’ll be live-blogging through the whole ceremony and will post the winners later this evening, as they are announced. Enjoy the commentary and pictures! TIP: refresh your page frequently! I will continue to add photos each thirty minutes or so! Enjoy the 80th annual Academy Awards!*

3:20pm:     Okay, I’m starting my live-blogging of the 2008 Oscars right now. I don’t want to start this early but it’s either this or reading about the Cold War and, well, we all know watching stuck-up famous people give each other fake hugs and dirty looks is wayy superior than reading about any war. Heidi Klum and Seal were just interviewed by Ryan Seacrest and Heidi Klum is annoying. Anytime people ask her if she’s looking forward to seeing anyone famous she’s states no. Girlfriend thinks she’s too famous to get star-struck or something.

3:30pm:     I’m watching the pre-Academy Awards red carpet thing on the E! channel with Ryan Seacrest, Guiliana Rancic, and Kimora Lee Simmons. I found it completely hilarious when George Clooney (with girlfriend Sarah Larson) completely shot down every possible joke or conversation piece from Ryan Seacrest. I actually found him to be a tiny rude, which I definitely wasn’t anticipating. Jason Bateman was funny when he insinuated that George Clooney wears a wig. I bet George heard him state that and was pissed! No one calls George out… no one! (Well, except Fabio, huh?) I’m absolutely already getting fatigued of watching this and the awards haven’t even started yet! To make it worse, I definitely don’t think Jon Stewart is neither cute or funny… so it’s going to be rough!

3:56pm:     Ryan is interviewing Saoirse Ronan of Atonement and I’m loving her cute little accent and her emerald green dress. I just learned from the text band at the bottom of the TV screen that Kristen Chenoweth will be singing (eh, performing) a song tonight. And if you saw her on Leno then you know she’s the cute blonde actress from Pushing Daisies.

4:00pm:     Steve Carell and his wife are being interviewed by Ryan right now and Steve is funny. I love The Office and I love all his movies so I’m happy to see he’s a funny, adorable guy in real life. He’s starring in Get Smart with Anne Hathaway coming out in June. I love that Steve and his wife just said happy birthday to his wife’s sister… so adorable! Patrick Dempsey and his wife are talking to Ryan. They’re boring and plain, I hate to state it.

4:05pm:     John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston are looking old and they weren’t very friendly with Ryan. Travolta’s wig is shaved off so that’s a plus. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is on the red carpet and is presenting tonight, which is a total joke because he’s like, the worst actor ever. I used to love him like 10 years ago but that fizzled out a long time ago! Atonement star James McAvoy and Anne Marie Scott are both so adorable. I love James’ accent, as always.

4:12pm:     Charlie Wilson’s War actress Amy Adams just got interviewed on the red carpet by Ryan and she was adorable and charming as always.  Adams was previously nominated for Ideal Supporting Actress at the 2005 Academy Awards for her role as Ashley Johnston in Junebug.

4:18pm:    Gary Busey just awkwardly hugged Jennifer Garner (who looks gorgeous with a large diamond necklace on) and then kissed her. It was HILARIOUS and she handled it pretty well, aside from the fact she was beyond freaked out. She stated she needed her man Ben Affleck around and I think she was right! Laura Linney was at Jennifer Garner’s side. Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill are looking like twins with pubic hair beards and black glasses.. but they’re so hilarious. I love them. Miley Cyrus is wearing a red Valentino dress (and I’m wondering why she’s even there) and Ryan Seacrest is just feeding her ego.. it’s sick!

4:30pm:     Ryan Seacrest can’t let go of the whole “Gary Busey busting in” moment. It was, however, quite hilarious. Keri Russell is now speaking to Ryan Seacrest. She’s wearing a gold strapless dress and she’s with her husband, Shane. She is a presenter for some sort of song. Jessica Alba and Cash Warren are being interviewed by Ryan and they’re absolutely stuck-up. Her face is looking fat now that she’s in her third-trimester. Sean “P. Diddy” Combs is talking to Ryan promoting his motion picture A Raisin In The Sun on ABC tomorrow night. Cameron Diaz had to ask her assistant what brand of jewels she was wearing. She is presenting at the Oscars again this year, the same as she did last year. Tilda Swinton talked about her role in Michael Clayton. That’s some red hair!

4:45pm:     Still on the red carpet with Ryan.  Lisa Rinna walked by in the background and I’m not sure why her and her huge lips are there but whatever. Colin Farrell was there with his mommy and he stated Nicole Kidman had nothing to do with why he became an actor, contrary to rumors.  Casey Affleck, who is being nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Assassination of Jesse James, was friendly with Ryan. Hilary Swank is wearing a black Versace dress. It’s pretty but somewhat plain.

4:58pm:    Katherine Heigl wearing a bright red dress with bright red lipstick. A bit intense for me but whatever.

5:01pm:    Now I’m watching the Red Carpet Countdown to the Oscars with Regis Philbin on ABC.  The Reeg is speaking to George (been there, done that) about his Best Actor nomination for Michael Clayton. The Reeg couldn’t hear a damn word that George stated and he made a fool outta himself. Funny, though. Marion Cotillard is wearing a white dress and is there for her nomination for Best Actress.

*This post is getting long so I’ll continue on the next post.. keep refreshing your page for updates! Thanks!*

Well that game was a letdown. If I cared about football, I might actually be upset. It felt like a couple of hours of watching guys take their jealousy and frustration out on Tom Brady by kicking his ass all over the stadium. The Pats lost to the Giants last night, and did not achieve their perfect season. And of course, the beautiful people were out in full force. Did Kate Hudson give birth to the Giants or something? That is a weird proud momma look she is got going on. She sat behind Patriots owner Bob Kraft during the game, so she had superior not have been there for the Giants. Other celebrities in attendance included Gwen Stefani’s husband Gavin Rossdale who looks beat to shit, Hugh Laurie whoring for Fox obviously, John Travolta, Alicia Keys, Laurence Fisburne, and others. Oh, and here I’m PRAYING for Paula Abdul to trot her fat ass out during Tom Petty’s performance and it turns out she was part of the pre-show. Which I missed. Luckily, we’ve her pre-recorded video right here for you to savor. Oh Paula.

Aussie Stars Invade Hollywood

Posted on Jan 20, 2008 01:29:59 PM

gday_012008_31.jpg

Australia Week kicked off yesterday with Australia.com’s Black Tie Gala, an event celebrating the contributions of stars promoting Australia here in the United States. Lots of celebs attended the event, which included a dinner by Australian chef Wolfgang Puck. Kylie Minogue and director Phillip Noyce (”Patriot Games,” “The Bone Collector”) each were honored, and their awards were presented by John Travolta and Harrison Ford. Olivia Newton-John performed.

It’s kind of refreshing to see Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta all healthy and happy together — especially after seeing how their “Grease” costar Jeff Conaway is doing on Celebrity Rehab. I wonder if Dr. Drew has taken on more than he can handle with that guy alone.

I also wonder if Olivia sang “Have You Ever Been Mellow.” A live performance just might convince me to visit the land down under.

Golden Globes not so Golden

Posted on Jan 14, 2008 12:40:57 PM

sweeneytodd.jpgWell, the Golden Globes weren’t so golden this year because of the writers’ strike. Alas, the awards weren’t televised because many stars stood in solidarity of the striking writers, and decided not to attend. Let’s hope the writers’ strike can be settled soon, so we can enjoy our Hollywood eye candy and see our favorite shows again. It is heartbreaking, but least there was a silver lining; we didn’t have to see yet another homemade Home Ec sewing reject outfit from the likes of Kim Basinger or Geena Davis.

Here are the winners of the Golden Globes:
Film Category
Best Motion Picture, Drama:
“Atonement” (See Keira Knightly perfect her gaping mouth look).
Ideal Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama: Daniel Day-Lewis in “There Will Be Blood” (He really is a good actor. Nice to see him making movies again).
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama: Julie Christie in “Away from Her” (And oldie, but goodie).
Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy: “Sweeney Todd” (Definitely a cut above the rest).
Best Actor, Musical or Comedy: Johnny Depp in “Sweeney Todd” (Depp seems to get great kudos in movies where he gets to use sharp objects…savvy).
Best Actress, Musical or Comedy: Marion Cotillard in “La Vie en Rose” (Edith Piaf personified).
Ideal Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture: Cate Blanchett in “I’m Not There” (Wow, from playing an elfin queen to Bob Dylan, this actress has a mighty wide range)!
Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture: Javier Bardem in “No Country for Old Men” (Anybody but John Revolta and an Affleck is fine by me. With that said, though, Javier Bardem is an breathtaking actor. I hope we’ll see more of him in future mainstream Hollywood movies).
Ideal Director: Julian Schnabel for “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”
Ideal Foreign Language Film: “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” (France)
Best Screenplay - Motion Picture: Ethan Coen and Joel Coen for “No Country for Old Men”
Best Animated Feature Film: “Ratatouille”

TV
Ideal Series, Drama: “Mad Men”
Ideal Actor, Drama Series: Jon Hamm in “Mad Men”
Ideal Actress, Drama Series: Glenn Close in “Damages”
Best Series, Comedy or Musical: “Extras”
Best Actress, Comedy or Musical Series: Tina Fey in “30 Rock”
Ideal Actor, Comedy or Musical Series: David Duchovny in “Californication” (This role is certainly a long way from the sexually repressed Fox Mulder. Kudos, David).
Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for TV: “Longford”
Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television: Queen Latifah in “Life Support”
Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television: Jim Broadbent in “Longford.” (Kudos to Broadbent. He’s an excellent actor. Who could forget him for his portrayal of Harold Zidler in “Moulin Rouge!”)
Ideal Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television: Samantha Morton in “Longford”
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for TV: Jeremy Piven in “Entourage”
